Is this tutoring or something different?
Growing Minds provides literacy intervention, not homework tutoring. Rather than helping with assignments, we teach the underlying reading and writing skills children need , including phonics, spelling, comprehension, fluency, and writing structure, so learning becomes easier across all subjects.
Will my child miss school for sessions?
Some families choose daytime sessions, while others prefer after school however, these sessions are limited
When sessions occur during school hours, we aim to schedule them during lower-impact instructional times whenever possible and can rotate times so one subject isn’t consistently missed.
For many struggling readers, short, targeted intervention is often more beneficial than remaining in whole-class instruction where foundational skills may still be developing.
How often does my child need to come?
Most students make the best progress with 2–3 sessions per week, especially at the beginning.
Some families choose once weekly for maintenance or lighter support, but consistent sessions lead to faster and more lasting growth.
How quickly will we see progress?
Every child is different, but many families notice:
• Increased confidence within a few weeks
• Stronger decoding and spelling within 1–2 months
• Steady reading improvement over several months
Structured literacy is designed to create meaningful, lasting skill growth, not quick fixes.
What ages or grades do you work with?
Growing Minds Literacy Centre will support all ages who need support with literacy.
Do you work with children with dyslexia or learning difficulties?
Structured literacy is especially effective for children with dyslexia-like reading challenges, but it also benefits any child who is struggling with reading, spelling, comprehension, or writing.
A formal diagnosis is not required.
What happens in a session?
Each session is individualized and may include:
• explicit phonics & spelling instruction
• guided reading practice
• comprehension strategies
• writing and sentence work
• progress monitoring
Sessions are structured, engaging, and designed to build confidence.
How do you know what my child needs?
All students begin with a Comprehensive Literacy Assessment to identify strengths and specific skill gaps.
This allows instruction to be targeted and efficient — no guesswork.
How long will my child need support?
Some children need short-term intervention (a few months), while others benefit from longer support depending on skill gaps.
Our goal is always to build independence, not ongoing dependence.
